UK troops lose immunity in Kenya

A Kenyan court has ruled that British troops must face charges that while high on cocaine they started a fire that destroyed over 12,000 acres of a Kenyan wildlife reserve.

The crime took place in March last year at Lolldaiga Hills Ranch, a wildlife reserve used by the British Army training unit in Kenya.

This week we are focusing on a landmark ruling by a Kenyan court that British troops training in Kenya have no immunity for crimes committed while in the country.

But even after this ruling, reports emerged that British troops training in Kenya have used hazardous white phosphorus.

When will this impunity come to end? The second part of our program will be on plans by the European Union to step up cooperation with African countries to help replace imports of Russian natural gas.

We are asking, are African countries ready to be Europe’s main source of gas?
