Vigil held for slain Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in London

Demonstrators in large numbers gathered in front of the UK's state broadcaster, the BBC, in London on Thursday to hold a vigil for the slain Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.

Palestinian leaders have said that they will take the case to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The United Nations, the United States, and European Union have called for a transparent investigation into the veteran journalist's murder, but protesters say that is not possible if Israel is allowed to hold an inquiry into its own misconduct.

Abu Akleh has been hailed as the ‘martyr of the free world’ – killed by an Israeli sniper – whilst simply out doing her job.

The massive outrage over Shireen’s killing underscores the enormous risks journalists and observers who report on the Palestinian conflict have to face.

Dozens have been deliberately targeted and killed by Israeli regime forces in the past decade.

Despite eyewitness accounts and footage from the scene, there is a growing sense of anger and frustration over distorted coverage of the incident by mainstream media organizations such as the BBC, who have sought to give clean chit to the perpetrators.

Those attending the vigil in honor of Abu Akleh in London were united in their condemnation and their grief.

Campaigners are urging their respective governments not to let Israel get away with this crime and hold those responsible for the murder of the journalist, who was exposing inconvenient truths about the Israeli occupation.
