West Bank funeral

Hundreds of Palestinian mourners hold a funeral for two people killed by Israeli forces in a raid in the occupied West Bank. Israeli forces stormed a refugee camp in Jenin, where snipers opened fire on Palestinian residents from rooftops. The Palestinian Health Ministry says two people were killed, and 15 others injured. An Israeli soldier was reportedly injured, too. Meanwhile, Israeli forces say they shot dead a Palestinian after he injured four Israelis in a stabbing attack near Beit Lahm. The raid on the Jenin camp has drawn strong condemnation from Palestinian groups.

US sanctions

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh says new US sanctions on Iranian nationals and entities prove the US government’s malice toward Iranians. Khatibzadeh says the sanctions are in line with the White House's failed maximum pressure policy, which contradict US claims that it is prepared to return to its commitments under the 2015 deal with Iran. On Wednesday, the US government announced fresh sanctions on several Iranian entities, claiming that they were involved in procuring supplies for Tehran’s ballistic missile program. The move came after a senior US official said many sanctions on Iran will remain in place regardless of whether an agreement is reached in Vienna.

'Gas must be paid in ruble'

President Vladimir Putin says Russia will stop gas supplies to unfriendly states, including all EU members, unless they switch to payments in rubles from April 1. In a televised address, the Russian president said he had signed a decree on the issue. Putin said foreign buyers must open ruble accounts in Russian banks. Western governments and companies have rejected Russia’s demand as a breach of existing contracts, which are set in euros or dollars. Moscow says matters have changed in the wake of the West's sanctions on Russia over its operation in Ukraine. Europe imports 40% of its gas from Russia and a halt to supplies will plunge it into a full-blown energy crisis.
