The Russian foreign minister says his country has made all necessary arrangements for the upcoming visit to Moscow by Iran’s President Ebrahim Raeisi.

Sergei Lavrov made the remarks in a Monday phone call with his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

Lavrov told Amir-Abdollahian that his country welcomes Raeisi’s forthcoming visit, adding that all necessary measures have been taken ahead of the visit.

The two sides also noted that the visit would be an important milestone in the two countries’ relations and provide a good opportunity for the expansion and depending of ties between Tehran and Moscow.

Iran’s President Raeisi is scheduled to visit Russia later this week.

According to Russia's TASS news agency, quoting the First Deputy Speaker Alexander Zhukov as saying on Monday, Raeisi will address a meeting of the Russian State Duma on January 20.

"On Thursday, the meeting will begin with a speech of the president of Iran," Zhukov said.

Late in December, Ali Bahadori Jahromi, the Iranian administration’s spokesman, said President Raeisi is expected to hold talks with senior Russian officials on ways to promote strategic relations between the two sides.

He added that Russian President Vladimir Putin had invited his Iranian counterpart to travel to Moscow “in line with the continuation of strategic interactions” between the two countries.
