US Coronavirus crisis

In the United States, top health officials are urging Americans to get their COVID-19 booster shots amid an outbreak of the Omicron variant of the disease. Fauci warns that if the current trend of infections continues, hospitals across the US will be overwhelmed with patients again. The Omicron variant has been identified in 43 out of 50 states and is likely to become the dominant strain in the country. The government is scrambling for more vaccinations as over a quarter of the US population hasn’t received a single dose yet. Also, only 40 percent of eligible Americans have taken their booster shots. The US is the world’s worst-hit nation by COVID-19 both in terms of its caseload and fatalities. More than 800,000 Americans have already died from the respiratory disease.
