Iran's Intl. Cinema Verite doc fest. wraps up with awards ceremony

The 15th edition of Iran's International Cinema Verite Documentary Film Festival has wrapped up with an awards ceremony in Tehran. The week long event honors documentary filmmakers from Iran and the world.
There's no limit for the themes of the entries; they can cover the sufferings of war-ravaged nations or deal with the socio-economic impacts of the coronavirus. Among the films that received an award this year was Alireza Memariani's "Broken Bones."
The feature documentary narrates a cobbler's concern about wildlife in Iran's southern Hormuz Island and his continuous effort to raise awareness of the critically endangered local deer, that are falling victim to human intervention in their habitat.
Last year, the event was held online due to the coronavirus pandemic, and this year, the films were screened both online and in theaters.
As many as 551 films were submitted to the Cinema Verite Secretariat. Out of which, 179 works were selected and put to the contest. Foreign laureates were not present in the festival due to the pandemic, and their awards were handed to representatives from their countries' embassies.
Documentaries must glue the audience to their seats with true yet touching stories, instead of fiction, and with genuine scenes, instead of visual effects. So docs that nabbed the Cinema Verite award are definitely worth to top the list of our must-watch films.
