Majlis Research Center weighs in on sanctions removal verification process
Majlis (the Iranian Parliament)'s Research Center has determined the features of an ideal process, through which the Islamic Republic could verify the potential removal of the US's illegal sanctions against the country.
The center weighed in on the matter in an article published on its website under the title "Verification of Sanctions Removal; Main Topics and Executive Aspect" on Wednesday.
The article defined a desirable verification process as "a continuous activity, in which a monitoring organization evaluates the other participant's compliance to the agreement's provisions based on objective indicators and criteria related to the type of obligations."
By "the agreement," the center was referring to the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world countries.
Upon conclusion in March that year, the agreement obliged the United States to remove its nuclear-related sanctions against the Islamic Republic. Washington, however, left the deal in 2018, and returned the coercive economic measures.
The Research Center published the article as Iran and the remaining parties to the deal have started a seventh round of talks in Vienna to examine the prospect of sanctions removal.
The article proposes the formation of a regulatory body towards carrying out the verification process.
It also lays emphasis on provision of proper guidelines that could guarantee the efficacy of the verification procedure.
