'Remove anti-Iran sanctions'

Iran and the remaining signatories to the 2015 nuclear deal are set to hold talks in Vienna next week. Now, Iran says the negotiations are a chance for the US and the remaining signatories to prove their genuine intention. To fulfill that, the other sides should get back to the full implementation of their commitments through removing all inhuman and illegal sanctions in an effective manner. That’s according to the acting head of Iran mission in Vienna, Mohammad Reza Ghaebi. He made the comments in a statement to the International Atomic Energy Agency. Ghaebi said, the sole cause of the current problems regarding the nuclear deal is the 2018 US withdrawal and its re-imposition of sanctions. He criticized Europe for failing to acknowledge that. Ghaebi defended Iran’s remedial actions, saying they were within the framework of the nuclear agreement.

Migrants tragedy

French President Emmanuel Macron has warned the United Kingdom not to use the death of dozens of immigrants for political purposes. In a phone call with Britain’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Macron said the two sides share responsibility for the incident. He said he expects Britain to fully cooperate in the investigation on the matter. The comments came as the two countries traded barbs over the deaths. London has accused Paris of not doing enough to stop the migrants. Earlier, the European Union commissioner called the deadly boat accident a tragedy, and asked European countries to act more rigorously in fighting migrant smuggling.

Interpol's new boss accused of torture

Interpol appoints an Emirati general accused of torture and human rights violations as its new president despite widespread opposition from rights groups. The International Criminal Police Organization says Ahmed Nasser al-Raisi, who currently heads UAE security forces, was elected following three rounds of voting. Rights groups accuse Raisi of being part of a network that systematically targets peaceful critics. Also, two British men, formerly imprisoned in the UAE, have recently filed legal complaints against the Emirati general, accusing him of torture. The designation follows the country’s generous funding for Interpol. Abu Dhabi is also accused of exploiting the global police agency to persecute political dissidents.
