Iran's textile industry

Textiles are all around us and they have many uses outside of the multi-billion-dollar fashion industry. they are an important part of the medical field, toy manufacturing, weaponry, agriculture and so many more unexpected fields. All textiles are made of some form of fibers. Some are natural fibers such as cotton, others are synthetic fibers such as acrylic or nylon. At present the most important raw material used in the textiles industry is polyester, it has gained a significant role over the years. Some 50 years ago, cotton was the most important fiber in this industry. However, over the years, population growth meant prioritizing food crops which decreased the area for cotton cultivation. Polyester is considered the king of fibers in the textiles industry and dominates 60% of material used in the textile production cycle. This is followed by cotton. The main raw material used to make polyester threads is polyester granules which are produced in large quantities in the petrochemical industry. Last year Iran’s total thread production stood at around 48-thousand tonnes. 25% of the raw material used in this production was from cotton.
