Manama regime’s normalization with Israel 'a crime', not in line with public will: Bahrain opposition

Bahrain’s main opposition group, the al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, has denounced Manama’s normalization of relations with Israel as “a crime,” emphasizing that the Al Khalifah regime’s policies do not conform to the will of the Bahraini nation.

Al-Wefaq, in a statement released on Wednesday, said the establishment of diplomatic ties between the Manama and Tel Aviv regimes is resoundingly rejected by all strata of Bahrain’s society.

The opposition party underlined that the normalization agreement with Israel is in blatant contradiction to Bahrain’s history and Islamic identity.

“This is an illegal agreement and all Bahrainis view it as a crime,” al-Wefaq pointed out.

Bahrainis stage a demonstration in condemnation of the inauguration of the Persian Gulf kingdom’s first ambassador to Tel Aviv, and normalization of ties between Manama and Israeli regimes.

The statement reiterated that the entire Bahraini nation supports Palestine and its legitimate cause.

“Anything that does not reflect the will of people and runs against their values ​​is of no value. Insistence on such adventurism will further deepen the rift between the Bahraini nation and the Al Khalifah regime as the latter has distanced itself from the people,” al-Wefaq highlighted.

The statement went on to say that the Bahraini nation will continue to express their strong support for Palestinians and their rights, irrespective of harsh repression and attempts to stifle their voice in international media outlets.

“Bahraini authorities allege that the normalization agreement with the Israeli regime forms the basis for peaceful coexistence. This is while the Al Khalifah regime does not show the slightest level of compromise and tolerance towards ordinary people and imprisoned human rights activists,” the opposition party said.

Outrage growing over Bahrain’s normalization with Israel

Palestinian factions and a host of states keep up their vociferous protests at a fledgling trend of Arab-Israeli normalization.

“We believe that the normalization agreement between the Al Khalifah regime and the occupying Israeli regime opens the way for military, security and intellectual cooperation between the two sides. This threatens Bahrain’s stability and security, and is detrimental to regional and international peace,” al-Wefaq concluded.

Former Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu signed agreements with Emirati Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al Zayani during an official ceremony hosted by former US president Donald Trump at the White House on September 15 last year.

Palestinians, who seek an independent state in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip with East al-Quds as its capital, view the deals as a betrayal of their cause.
