Election lawsuit: Trump says America 'disappointed' in Supreme Court

US President Donald Trump has criticized the Supreme Court for refusing to hear an election lawsuit launched by his Republican allies in Texas, saying the country is "disappointed."

“I am very disappointed in the United States Supreme Court, and so is our great country!" the outgoing president said in a tweet early on Friday.

The comments came days after the Supreme Court dismissed a Texas lawsuit attempting to change the November 3 election results in four battleground states of Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Trump claims that local Democrats in the key swing states were able to “outsmart” their Republican counterparts to rig the election.

The dismissal by the high court was the latest blow to the Trump campaign’s efforts to overturn Democrat Joe Biden’s victory. State and federal courts had already rejected dozens of lawsuits challenging the outcome.

Trump has frequently refused to concede defeat and claimed the election was rigged against him, insisting that he won the hotly-contested poll.

"I WON THE ELECTION IN A LANDSLIDE, but remember, I only think in terms of legal votes, not all of the fake voters and fraud that miraculously floated in from everywhere! What a disgrace!" the president had tweeted last week.

Twitter had flagged his tweet as "disputed," and temporarily blocked users from liking and replying to the president's tweets.

Election experts, local and state officials and Attorney General Bill Barr have all said there is no indication of widespread fraud in the 2020 election.

The Electoral College this week voted for Biden as the president and Senator Kamala Harris as the vice president of the United States.
