US President Donald Trump had probably expedited his release from hospital for political reasons, says political analyst Rodney Martin.
On October 1, Trump announced that he had tested positive for the coronavirus and a day after was admitted to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. However, he left the hospital on Monday and went back to the White House.
Landing at the White House on Marine One, Trump removed his face mask and declared he feels great. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said, however, “You are not out of it until you have gone several days out and [are] doing well.”
Trump had repeatedly disagreed with Fauci on COVID-19, including social-distancing guidelines and masks wearing, calling the doctor as “a little bit of an alarmist.”
“It's important to note that Donald Trump falls almost into every single high-risk category, his age in his mid-70s, he's obese. His health habits are not very good, to begin with, and one is left with the impression that he probably expedited his release from the military hospital for political reasons rather than medical reasons,” Martin, a former congressional staffer, said in an interview with Press TV.
“He (Trump) did not look well when he did his stage return to the White House. A lot of commentators have noted that he was breathing pretty heavy, was gasping for air as one commentator... but in the future at his age him trying to rush, recovery from a very deadly virus, I think Dr. Fauci's concerns are well taken,” Martin said.
The New York Times reported that Trump was “angry at the state of the race” for the White House as he is trailing Democratic nominee Joe Biden. He has been imploring his aides to allow him to resume campaign events as soon as this weekend.
Trump has “demonstrated the fact that politics and personal gain takes precedence over medical science, and the best advice provided him,” Martin noted, adding, but this time, “he is playing with a very dangerous virus,” and “it may harm him fatally.”
Trump, whose administration has been under harsh criticism over its mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic, has seldom worn a mask publicly.
However, this time he has lost his supporters' trust, Martin said. "He's lost that trust, even his own supporters are now beginning to say that he should have been wearing masks.”
