Chile misses out on 2018 World Cup

Copa America champions Chile have seen their hopes of reaching the 2018 World Cup shattered after suffering a 3-0 defeat at the hands of already-qualified Brazil in Sao Paulo.

La Roja headed into the dramatic night, just one point shy of earning automatic qualification. But, the hosts were by no means going to make it an easy task for the Chileans.

Paulinho and Gabriel Jesus found the back of the net in a space of three minutes in the second half to leave the visitors in massive shock.

Chile looked utterly toothless in attack, while the Selecao were still dangerous on the counter-attack with the predictable knockout blow eventually landing in stoppage time.

With keeper Claudio Bravo stranded after going up for a corner, Jesus was on hand to score his second of the night with a simple tap-in from a pass by Willian.
