US Republican Candidate Ted Cruz is only three points behind billionaire real estate mogul Donald Trump, a new poll shows.
According to the NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released Tuesday, the Texas senator has 27 percent support while Trump leads at 30 percent.
The survey results were released as US voters went to polls in Mississippi and Michigan. Republican voters were also casting ballots in Idaho and Hawaii to choose their candidates for the presidential race.
“Tuesday's results show a tightening in the GOP field overall, with 10 points separating all GOP candidates,” the Hill said its report covering the poll results.
Florida Senator Marco Rubio comes fourth with 20 percent right below Ohio Governor John Kasich with 2 percent more.

According to the poll, Trump would lose in hypothetical head-to-head match-ups with his GOP rivals.
Cruz and Kasich could each best Trump 57 to 40 percent, while Rubio could top him by 56 to 43 percent.
A separate poll by ABC News and The Washington Post earlier in the day, also showed that Trump would lose match-ups with Cruz and Rubio.
Last month's version of the newly-released poll found out that Cruz was leading Trump by two points.
It also gave Kasich 11 points, half of what he has gained now.
