Daesh Takfiri militants are currently running detention centers in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Nangarhar, officials say.

Afghan officials in Nangarhar’s Achin district say the detention facilities being operated by the terrorists are in three areas of the district.

According to Achin authorities, the militants have imprisoned Afghan civilians, including elderly people.

The Daesh terrorists have also recently closed down a number of schools in the area.

Last month, Nangarhar’s Directorate of Education reported that about 40 teachers had been sent home after the closure of six schools by Daesh.

Residents say the militants claim the schools must be closed in order to prevent its students from working for the Afghan government after graduation.

Nangarhar has been witnessing a rise in the presence of Daesh terrorists in at least seven of its districts in recent months.

According to tribal leaders, Daesh militants are holding more than 20 residents from the Pachir Agam district hostage.

The Daesh militants, mainly operating in Iraq and Syria, have reportedly been recruiting militants in Afghanistan over the past months, in what is believed to be aimed at establishing sanctuaries in areas traditionally seen as Taliban strongholds.

The recent developments have prompted Afghan lawmakers to call on the government to take action and counter the advances of terrorists.

This comes as Afghanistan has been the scene of violence for the past 14 years after the US and its allies invaded the country as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror, which also saw the removal of the Taliban from power.

Daesh and Taliban have also clashed on a number of occasions in recent months.
