Iran men’s B national volleyball team has ended its campaign at the 2015 Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship in Tehran and finished runner-up in the tournament, being beaten by Japan.

On Saturday evening, the Japanese squad, which had routed Qatar 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-17 and 25-23 in its semifinal encounter the previous day, stole the show and edged pass the Persians 3-1 (25-17, 25–22, 18–25, 25–21) in a completive match staged at the 12,000-seater Azadi Sport Complex in western Tehran.

The Samurais got off to a promising start, and went on collecting points with good serves and attacks. The visitors continued to push ahead and add to their points tally. The hosts fell short to narrow the deficit, and Japan finally won the first set 25-17.

Japan maintained its dominant fashion in the first few minutes of the second set, and registered a 7-3 lead. Iran then managed to chalk up three points, before both teams went into the first technical timeout 8-6.

The Iranians racked up three successive points after the break, and leveled the scores at 9-9. The Japanese then took advantage of the home side’s individual mistakes to lead by two points (16-14) at the second technical timeout.

After that, the Japanese side held firm and despite some fight back from Iran, it grabbed the second set 25-22.

The third set started with Iran's lead but it turned to be a close contest as Japan did not seem to be capitulating. Iranian volleyball players maintained their prevailing performance, and jumped out to an 8-6 lead at the first technical timeout. They continued to progress and went into the second timeout 16-12. The hosts finally secured the third set and won it 25-18.

The visitors returned to action vigorously in the fourth and final, and exerted a spell of pressure on the Iranian team to put Japan 8-5 up for the first technical timeout.

The Iranian outfit sought to close the gap afterwards, but the Japanese widened the distance and took the score to 16-13 for the second timeout.

Japan managed to expand the difference further, and won the final set 25-21 at last.

“First of all, I congratulate Japan for the title. We are not here to win the title. We wanted to field our young players to gain experience for the upcoming events,” Iran coach Peyman Akbari said after the match.

“I am satisfied with our performance in the competition. It’s Iran’s third team and we had just 20 days to prepare the team,” he added.

China finished in third place following a 3-2 (25–23, 25–19, 21–25, 24–26, and 15–9) victory over Qatar earlier on Saturday.
