A bomb blast has ripped the Kurdish capital city of Erbil. The explosion targeted a cafeteria in the vicinity of the US Consulate in the suburb of Ainkawa West of Erbil.

As you can see behind me the Kurdish Peshmerga are heavily deployed here on the ground. Now Ainkawa is known to be a relatively peaceful neighborhood in the Kurdish Capital city of Erbil. However the explosion that has taken place, it is worth-noting that it is the third explosion to take place since last August.

Spokesperson of Erbil police Department confirmed that the explosion was in fact a car bomb blast.

The bomb went off at rush hour on Friday.

The manager of the cafeteria where the blast went off told Press TV that most of his customers are foreigners.

Though ISIL has not claimed responsibility for the attack yet, some analysts say it’s a retaliatory action by the terror group in response to the recent advances of Iraqi and Kurdish forces in the terrorist-held areas.
