The Higher Committee overseeing the funeral of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in Iraq says necessary preparations and arrangements have been made for the procession in the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala.

Speaking on Monday, the committee’s spokesman, Saad Maan, said Iraqi officials and a high-ranking Iranian delegation will receive the body of the late Leader during an official ceremony at Najaf International Airport on Tuesday.

He said the public funeral ceremony in Karbala will begin at 4 p.m. local time on Wednesday.

Referring to security coordination for the funeral, he said that the flight of any aerial vehicle, including quadcopters, within the airspace of the event is prohibited.

Ayatollah Khamenei’s body will be taken along 6- and 5.8-kilometer routes in Najaf and Karbala, respectively, with 150 ambulances stationed there, according to Maan.

More than 3,000 journalists from Iraqi, Arab, and international media outlets will cover the funeral procession while 2,500 cameras and 23 live broadcast centers will capture every angle of the historic ceremony.

He also noted that 350 mawkibs (makeshift stalls) in Najaf and more than 400 others in Karbala have been organized to provide services to mourners.

The Popular Mobilization Units PMU, also known as Hashd al-Sha'abi, and the Iraqi police have made significant efforts for the holding of the ceremony, he said, emphasizing that Iraqi army forces have also played a major role in this regard.

The Leader was assassinated, alongside some of his family members, on February 28, the first day of the 40-day illegal war of aggression waged by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran.

The multi-day funeral began on Friday with Ayatollah Khamenei’s body lying in state at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Mosalla and foreign dignitaries and religious figures paying their respects. It continued on Saturday and Sunday with a public farewell and prayers, respectively.

On Monday, large crowds packed the streets of Tehran as the funeral convoy made its way through the Iranian capital.

The ceremonies will continue in Iran’s holy city of Qom, as well as in Iraq. The final funeral rites are set to take place on Thursday in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad, where Ayatollah Khamenei will be buried at the shrine of Imam Reza (AS), the eighth Shia Imam, in accordance with the martyred Leader's will.
