Iran's youth weightlifting team captured the world championship title at the 2026 IWF World Junior Championships in Ismailia, Egypt, claiming six gold medals, seven silver, and one bronze in a commanding performance.

The Iranian squad sealed their triumph on Friday with a dominant sweep in the super-heavyweight division, where Hamidreza Mohammadi-Tanha delivered a flawless performance to claim gold with a total of 401 kg. He lifted 171, 176, and 180 kg in the snatch, then followed with successful lifts of 206, 214, and 221 kg in the clean and jerk, collecting three gold medals.

Taha Nemati-Moghaddam secured silver in the same category with a 392 kg total, successfully completing lifts of 166 and 172 kg in the snatch before recording 206, 213, and 220 kg in the clean and jerk, bringing home three silver medals.

In the 110 kg class, Abolfazl Zare claimed three more golds for Iran with a total of 400 kg. After lifting 180 kg in the snatch, he completed a perfect clean and jerk sequence with lifts of 204, 209, and 220 kg.

Farhad Gholizadeh added three silver medals in the 110 kg division, posting a 387 kg total with a 179 kg snatch and 208 kg clean and jerk.

Earlier in the competition, Hamidreza Zarei earned bronze in the 94 kg category with a 366 kg total, finishing fourth in the snatch but claiming silver in the clean and jerk with a 204 kg lift.

The 2026 World Junior Weightlifting Championships, organized by the International Weightlifting Federation, brings together the world's top lifters aged 17-20 competing across ten weight categories for men and ten for women.

Iran's success comes despite a devastating war imposed by the United States and Israel that has inflicted significant damage on civilian infrastructure across the country, including sports facilities that serve as training grounds for the nation's athletes.
