Trump creating conditions that may lead to 'good deal' with Iran, Netanyahu says

Following talks in Washington, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said US President Donald Trump may be creating conditions that may lead to "good deal" with Iran.

Speaking before leaving the US on Thursday, Netanyahu said discussions with Trump focused primarily on Iran and the ongoing nuclear negotiations.

"Naturally, the discussions focused on several issues, but in fact primarily on the negotiations with Iran. The President believes that the Iranians have already learned who they are dealing with," he said.

"He believes that the conditions he [Trump] is creating, combined with the fact that they surely understand they made a mistake the last time by not reaching an agreement, may create the conditions for achieving a good deal," Netanyahu said.

Back in June last year, the Israeli regime initiated a 12-day war against Iran despite ongoing negotiations between American and Iranian officials aimed at resolving outstanding issues through diplomacy.

The Israeli aggression started on June 13, 2025, just two days before the sixth round of Iran-US talks was scheduled in Muscat.

Although the US also joined the war against Iran, Israel was ultimately compelled to plead for a ceasefire due to the Iranian armed forces’ powerful retaliatory operations.

While expressing what Netanyahu called general skepticism regarding the quality of any agreement with Iran, he said any potential agreement must address Israel’s concerns, including not only the nuclear issue but also ballistic missiles and Iran’s support for resistance movements.

“I will not hide from you that I expressed general skepticism regarding the quality of any agreement with Iran,” he said.

Any deal “must include the elements that are very important from our perspective,” Netanyahu continued. “It’s not just the nuclear issue.”

Israel and the US continue to push for an expansion of ongoing nuclear talks to include Tehran’s missile program and support for resistance movements, but Iranian officials say these two issues are a “red line” that will never be placed on the negotiating table.

Trump, however, has indicated he is willing to give diplomacy a chance, insisting that negotiations with Iran continue despite pressure from Tel Aviv to abandon talks with Tehran.

The US president said his meeting with Netanyahu ended without a definitive result, adding that he preferred a deal if possible but would see what the outcome would be otherwise.
