Israeli military forces have launched a new incursion into several areas in the countryside of Syria’s southwestern province of Quneitra, in the latest violation of the country’s sovereignty, local media say.

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that a force, made up of three military vehicles and coming from Bir Ajam town, raided the villages of Bariqa and Kudna on Tuesday.

Another convoy of twelve Israeli military vehicles entered the village of Saida al-Golan in the Quneitra countryside from the western side of Saida al-Hanout village.

Israeli soldiers also set up a checkpoint at the western intersection of Saida al-Golan village, while a batch of Israeli troops broke into local homes.

This latest Israeli incursion comes as a delegation from Syria’s ruling Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) regime is holding a new round of talks with Israeli officials in the French capital Paris, under the coordination and mediation of the United States.

SANA reported on Monday that the Syrian delegation was headed by the HTS regime’s foreign minister, Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, and General Intelligence Director General Hussein al-Salama.

“The discussions are primarily focused on reactivating the 1974 Disengagement Agreement to ensure Israeli forces withdraw to their positions prior to December 8, 2014, within the framework of an equitable security agreement that prioritizes full Syrian sovereignty and guarantees the prevention of any form of interference in internal affairs,” an informed source said.

The two parties have been involved in intermittent discussions aimed at achieving a "security agreement" for several months; however, no agreement or substantial advancement has been reported.

Following the fall of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government last year in December, the Israeli military has been conducting airstrikes targeting military installations, facilities, and arsenals previously operated by Syria’s now-defunct army.

Israel has faced widespread criticism for ending the 1974 ceasefire agreement with Syria and taking advantage of the chaos in the war-torn nation to seize territory.

Armed Conflict Location and Event Data (ACLED), a US-based war monitor, has recently revealed that the Israeli military has carried out more than 600 attacks on Syria over the past year.

Despite the HTS’s pledges of cooperation with Tel Aviv, Israel has remained unwilling to withdraw from Syria.
