Iran’s defense capabilities

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman says the country’s defense and missile program is strictly defensive in nature and will not be the subject of any negotiation. Esmaeil Baqaei says Israel seeks to push Washington into action against Iran under the pretext of its missile program. He accused the US and its allies of hypocrisy for arming Israel while portraying Iran’s defenses as a threat. The Iranian official dismissed the anti-Iran media campaign as part of a hybrid war, emphasizing that Iran’s armed forces are fully prepared to defend the country. He urged the IAEA to condemn US and Israel’s attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities in June. Baqaei noted that Tehran has met its treaty obligations while the agency and its partners have failed to uphold theirs.

fate of UK pro-Palestine activists

In the UK, two hunger-striking pro-Palestine activists have been taken to hospital amid rising concerns about their worsening prison conditions. Amu Gib and Kamran Ahmed who are affiliated with Palestine Action group have been refusing to eat food for several weeks. Gib who was being held at HMP Bronzefield while awaiting trial is on day 50 of his hunger strike, and Ahmed from Pentonville prison in London, is on day 42 of his hunger strike. They are the latest of eight prisoners hospitalised since the strike began on November two. A prisoner-led collective has warned strikers will die without urgent government intervention. They are protesting their alleged involvement in break-ins at the UK’s subsidiary of the Israeli defense firm Elbit Systems in Bristol and a Royal Air Force base in Oxfordshire.

Thailand Cambodia clashes

Fresh clashes have erupted along the Thailand-Cambodia border as foreign ministers of the Southeast Asian nations gather in Malaysia to discuss peace efforts. Cambodia’s Defence Ministry has accused Thailand of deploying F-16 fighter jets to drop four bombs on its Banteay Meanchay province. It says several Cambodians were wounded by Thailand artillery fire in a border village. Meanwhile, Thailand says heavy exchanges have erupted in its Sa Kaeo province that damaged homes. This comes as foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN are in Malaysia to revive a ceasefire deal that was first brokered in July by Malaysia and the United States. The conflict, which was reignited on December 8, has killed at least 40 people and displaced nearly one million on both sides of the border.
