Israel’s arms imports from UK hit record high values this year, data shows

The value of UK arms sales to the Israeli regime has reached a record high in 2025 despite rules restricting the export of weapons that could be used in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Figures from the Israeli tax authority analyzed by the Channel 4 News FactCheck team show that nearly £1 million (around $135 million) worth of UK munitions were shipped to ports in the occupied lands in the first nine months of the current year.

The investigation found that figures are more than double the amount received in any of the previous three years.

That is in spite of the UK government’s announcement in September 2024 that it had suspended 29 export licenses to the occupying entity for arms that could be used by its military in Gaza.

As of July this year, some 347 licenses to export arms to Israel remain active, of which 167 are listed as “military.”

The latest findings come as FactCheck revealed last week that Israel imported over £400,000 worth of arms from UK companies in June 2025, the highest amount in a single month since records began in January 2022.

The exact nature of the items wasn’t specified in the data, but they were listed under a category that includes bombs, grenades, torpedoes, missiles, and ammunition.

Investigation discovered that September was the second-highest value month on record, with over £310,000 worth of UK munitions under the same category arriving in Israeli ports.

Significant shipments were also recorded in August, when around £150,000 worth of UK arms passed through Israeli customs, including more than 100,000 bullets. This is the second-largest monthly value on record.

The customs figures do not identify the end user of the items or whether they were re-exported.

The findings come just days after a UN Commission of Inquiry said there were “reasonable grounds to conclude” that Israel is committing four acts of genocide in Gaza, namely killing, causing serious bodily or mental harm, deliberate destruction, and preventing births.

The Commission said other countries must “employ all means reasonably available to them to prevent the commission of genocide in the Gaza Strip” and stop arms sales to Israel where there is reason to believe they will be used in genocide.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has faced criticism from pro-Palestinian organizations, legal experts, and members of his own party for the ongoing export of component parts for F-35 jets utilized by the Israeli air force.
