Palestinians killed

Another day of mourning for Palestinians in the occupied West Bank as they hold a funeral for the latest victim of the Israeli atrocities in the city of Nablus. 23-year-old Mohammad Nada was fatally shot when the regime’s troops raided the Al-Ein Refugee Camp in Nablus. The attack left several other Palestinians injured. Just a day ago, Israeli forces shot dead three Palestinians in the same city. Following the deadly raids, the Palestinian ministry of foreign affairs called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to end its silence on the regime’s war crimes. It stressed that the ICC has an obligation to hold Israeli war criminals accountable and bring them to justice. The Israeli military regularly launches deadly raids across the occupied West Bank, particularly in Nablus and Jenin. So far this year, the regime has killed over 200 Palestinians.

Ukraine war

Ukrainian forces have reportedly launched major offensives in the southern and eastern frontlines. A Russian official has spoken of several waves of attacks staged in the Zaporizhzhia region, with Ukrainian forces using Western military equipment, including Leopard tanks. Kiev has not commented on that offensive. On another front, the Ukrainian military reported making small advances against Russian forces in parts of Bakhmut in the east. The advances are made a day after the United States announced another military aid package for Ukraine worth 400 million dollars including black hornet nano drones. Russia has time and again warned the West against providing military assistance to Ukraine, arguing the move would only prolong the war.

Muharram mourning

Muslims across the world hold special mourning ceremonies on the days leading to Ashura, the tenth day of the lunar month of Muharram when Prophet Muhammad’s grandson, Imam Hussein was martyred. Every year, black-clad mourners mark the occasion with massive mourning processions or ceremonies held at mosques and religious centers. In Iran, the city of Zanjan is famous for its massive mourning ceremonies currently marking the eve of Tasu'a in commemoration of Abbas ibn Ali, Imam Hussein’s brother. Ashura is the day when Imam Hussein and 72 of his companions were martyred in the plains of Karbala in modern-day Iraq. They were killed by the forces of the tyrannical ruler of the time, Yazid, in the battle of Karbala in 680 AD.
