Iran missile power
Iran’s top general says the country has started the mass production of ballistic missiles capable of destroying moving maritime targets. The Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces says Iran is now among the three countries possessing the know-how to make such missiles. Major General Mohammad Baqeri said the missiles are capable of pinpoint and high-speed strikes against targets up to 1,500 kilometers away. Iran has in recent years made great strides in manufacturing a broad range of military hardware, helping its defense industry achieve self-sufficiency in this sector. Iran says its military prowess is intended to deter threats and defend against any aggression.
Israeli strike on Syria
Israel has launched a fresh air raid against Syria, this time targeting the international airport in the northwestern city of Aleppo. The airstrike was reportedly carried out from the direction of the Mediterranean sea, west of the coastal city of Latakia. The attack damaged the runway of Aleppo International Airport, putting it out of service. Syrian media say the country’s air defenses shot down a number of the missiles. The new Israeli strike comes as the Aleppo airport is one of the main portals of entry for foreign airplanes carrying humanitarian aid to the victims of the country’s recent devastating earthquake. Israel frequently carries out missile attacks on targets in Syria. Damascus has repeatedly complained to the UN and urged the Security Council to take action against Tel Aviv’s crimes.
France pension reforms
A poll shows most people in France are in favor of paralyzing strikes against President Emmanuel Macron's pension reforms. The survey shows two-thirds of the people support the protest movement in general. All major unions representing workers in public transportation and the energy sectors have called for stoppages from Tuesday to bring the country to a standstill. More than 260 demonstrations are expected countrywide. Police are expecting up to 1.5 million people to participate. The reform plan has triggered several such protests in recent months. Macron plans to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64, arguing that the change is necessary due to the country’s forecast deficits. The opponents, however, see the changes as unfair.
