An Afghan delegation comprising politicians, MPs and retired diplomats are in Islamabad under what is known as track-II diplomacy. This after negotiations between the Afghan government and the Taliban failed to show any sign of progress amid allegations that Islamabad is supporting the militant group.
The US troops are fast withdrawing from Afghanistan under a peace deal Americans had with the Taliban two years ago. On the other hand the militant group, which already controls nearly 75 percent of the territory, is now sieging and capturing districts and regions around the capital Kabul.
The Afghan government blames neighboring Pakistan for supporting Taliban’s ongoing rapid territorial gains, an allegation Pakistan denies.
