Tensions on the rise between China, Western powers

Tensions are growing; sanctions are being imposed and the rhetoric is ramping up on all sides. Over the past few hours China has responded to sanctions from the EU, UK, Canada and the US in kind, with sanctions of its own.
Speaking to the media, China's deputy ambassador to the UK voiced strong opposition to western pressure, slamming accusations of human rights abuse as cause for unilateral sanctions.
Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has also weighed in as he met his Chinese counterpart in Beijing.
Lavrov has also touted a move away from the dollar in a bid to side step western sanctions. For many this is the crux of the issue. The US economy and the global dependence on the American dollar are waning. Throw in the global pandemic and forecasts make grim reading in Washington, London and Brussels.
In Beijing however the economy has grown by 4.9 percent. Western powers are well and truly spooked. All previous attempts at slowing Beijing’s economy have failed.
