Was Erdogans recitation of Araz poem a threat to Irans territorial integrity? Turkish President Erdogan recited a poem which is a reminder of separation. How it got there and why Erdogan might have recited that poem raised eyebrows high.
Turkish President Erdogan recited a poem at the Baku Victory Parade December the 10th which was strongly criticized by Iranian officials. The parade was to celebrate a recent cease-fire agreement between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is an Azeri Turkish-speaking republic, ripped away from Azeri mainland which is Irans Northwestern-most province today. So when Turkeys First Man sang a song of separation between the two Azerbaijans, it sounded like he was calling for Irans Azerbaijan to pull away to join its long-lost sister the Republic of Azerbaijan, and then big brother Turkey, forming a Pan-Turkic alliance. Iran doesnt/wouldnt claim being big brother to its long-lost former provinces and khanates. So why would Turkey do so? Or did it? Turkey explained Mr. Erdogan's mistake, as in he must have misunderstood the poem.
