Ceremony honors IRIB World Service correspondents

The IRIB World Service, official radio and television network of Iran, has held a ceremony in the Iranian capital Tehran to honor its correspondents working across the world.
Reporting the top stories from the heart of global news-making events, IRIB World Service is an Iran-based network affiliated to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Broadcasting, shortly known as the IRIB.
Media efforts by correspondents and journalists working for the network were highlighted and honored during the annual ceremony attended by the IRIB’s managers and high-ranking officials. This was echoed by the chief commander of the IRGC, Major General Hossein Salami, who described the journalists as soldiers fighting against the US’s soft war.
IRIB World Service is the official international broadcasting radio and TV network of Iran, which aims to familiarize non-Iranian audience with the Iranian culture and politics. Running in different languages, it has Press TV under its umbrella which tries to cover regional and international developments from different viewpoints that are usually ignored or misrepresented by mainstream media.
In this year’s ceremony, Press TV’s news anchor, Marzieh Hashemi, received special recognition for her efforts to shed light on the US police brutality against the Afro-American community. She was jailed in the US in January this year without charge for two weeks and later freed amid a public outcry. She says this experience has made her more determined in her career.
The road for IRIB World Service has been bumpy as it has faced many challenges, including measures taken against Press TV and its other outlets which it describes as violations of freedom of speech. In one of such measure, Google blocked Press TV and Hispan TV's access to their official accounts on its platforms.
IRIB World Service’s unique narrative is what has grabbed the attention of millions of audience around the world who want to hear the truth.
Covering a wide spectrum of audience with different languages, IRIB World Service has to swim against the stream to unearth the unexplored angles of news. This has sometimes come at the cost of banning the Iranian media outlet in other countries, but the truth cannot be masked.
