Iran defeats Uzbekistan in 2018 Asian Men's Handball Championship

The Iran men’s national handball team has notched up its first victory at the 18th edition of Asian Men's Handball Championship in South Korea, and powered past the Uzbek squad.

On Friday, the Iranian outfit exhibited admirable skills and strength during its opening match at Seo-Suwon Chilbo Gymnasium in Suwon, located about 30 kilometers (19 miles) south of the capital Seoul, and defeated Uzbekistan 37-18.

Iran will return to action tomorrow, when it takes on Japan in its second group stage fixture.

The 2018 Asian Men's Handball Championship kicked off on January 18, and will run through January 28.

It acts as the Asian qualifying tournament for the 2019 World Men's Handball Championship. For the first time, Australia, New Zealand and Bangladesh have participated in the event.

Iran has been drawn in Group A along with Iraq and Japan.

Australia, Bahrain, Oman and Uzbekistan are in Group B.

While Group C consists of Bangladesh, India, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates; China, New Zealand, Qatar and Saudi Arabia form Group D.
