Cristiano Ronaldo has won the UEFA player of the year award, for the 2nd year in a row, beating Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, during a Gala Ceremony in Monaco.
The Portuguese super star helped Real to a 2nd successive champions league title, and finished as the tournament's top scorer with 12 goals last season.

The 32-year-old striker has now won the award 3 times, one more than his rival Messi. The Triumph could enhance the odds of Ronaldo capturing a 5th Ballon d'Or title.

Ronaldo was also named the best forward of the 2016-17 UEFA champions league campaign, while Gianluigi Buffon was awarded the goalkeeper of the season, Sergio Ramos the top defender, and Luka Modric the best midfielder.
