The families of teenagers who were fatally shot by their classmate in a high school in Washington last year, file a lawsuit against school district and father of the shooter.

Lawyers for the Marysville school district received the claim for damages in an email on Friday.

The claim was filed by five families, who are seeking up to $110 million in damages from the school district and the shooter’s father, Raymond Fryberg.

Last year, 15-year-old Jaylen Fryberg, opened fire on his classmates at lunch at Marysville-Pilchuck high school, killing four and injuring another, before killing himself.

Lincoln C Beauregard, an attorney for the families, said they now want “accountability”.

“When I was contacted by these families I asked them, ‘What do you want out of this lawsuit?’ They all looked at me and said ‘accountability,’” Beauregard said.

The families said the substitute teacher at the high school was forewarned of a school shooting through a rumor. They believe the school district was negligent for failing to prevent the attack.

The school district, however, said they were “disappointed” to get news of the claim.

The families also fault the shooter’s father for not preventing his son from obtaining his gun.

In September, Fryberg was convicted of six counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, one of which was used by his son in the shooting. He is expected to be sentenced on Monday. He faces up to 10 years in prison for each count.
