IRGC arrests member of terrorist group linked to Israel, US in southeast Iran

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) forces have arrested another member of a terrorist group, whose two members were killed last week, in southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

Tasnim news agency reported that after two members of the terrorist group were killed on August 6, Iranian forces conducted detailed intelligence surveillance to track the remaining elements.

This morning, the report added, through the efforts of the servicemen from the Quds Base of the IRGC’s Ground Force and the IRGC Intelligence Organization of Sistan and Baluchestan, another member of the cell was arrested in southern Sistan and Baluchestan and a large quantity of weapons, ammunition, explosive equipment, and communications items were confiscated from him.

The report said that the remaining members of the cell intended to carry out terrorist attacks against pre-selected targets in the southern part of the province.

“The mercenary heads of this terrorist cell, affiliated with the ominous Zionist regime and the terrorist US regime and supported by the reactionary Arab states of the Persian Gulf, intend to launch a series of terrorist acts in the province following the defeat of their leaders in the military war against our country,” it pointed out.

“However, by the grace of God Almighty, these terrorist elements were targeted and neutralized before they could carry out any terrorist action.”

Sistan and Baluchestan, which shares a lengthy border with Pakistan and Afghanistan, has historically been a focal point for foreign intelligence agencies attempting to infiltrate Iran.

Takfiri and separatist factions, frequently funded, armed, and directed by spy agencies such as Israel's Mossad and the US’s CIA, often attempt to exploit the rugged terrain to carry out assassinations, bombings, and infrastructure sabotage.

However, in recent years, the Islamic Republic has vastly fortified its border security and enhanced its domestic intelligence-gathering capabilities.
