Israel is reportedly gearing up for a significant escalation of aggression throughout all refugee camps in the occupied West Bank, redirecting forces from the Lebanon invasion to coincide with upcoming Jewish holidays.
Hebrew-language Channel 14 quoted unnamed Israeli sources as saying that occupation forces will concentrate on raids and invasions of West Bank refugee camps, specifically targeting areas they label as needing “treatment.”
This deployment will involve elite units, increasing the total occupation presence in the West Bank to around 26 battalions.
Channel 14 reported that this escalation is in line with statements made by Israeli minister of military affairs Israel Katz and reflects decisions taken at the political level. The deployment broadens offensives previously carried out in northern West Bank refugee camps to encompass additional camp areas in the coming months.
The timing coincides with declarations from far-right Israeli ministers that the military onslaughts against Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran remain “unfinished,” with officials claiming that no comprehensive strategic victories have been secured on any front.
Despite ceasefire agreements with Gaza, Lebanon, and the Iran-US memorandum of understanding that includes Israel, occupation forces persist in conducting invasions in violation of ceasefire terms while simultaneously preparing for expanded campaigns in the West Bank.
Military evaluations also suggest that the occupation command is redirecting its attention to the West Bank, with a specific focus on refugee camps that have seen ongoing escalation since the start of 2024.
The anticipated invasions coincide with the ongoing significant incursions into northern West Bank refugee camps, which have led to extensive civilian displacement in recent months.
Documentation from the United Nations verifies that over 40,000 Palestinians have been displaced from refugee camps in Jenin, Tulkarem, and Nur Shams, alongside the destruction of homes, infrastructure, and the disruption of essential services.
Israeli sources have reported that occupation forces are executing raids aimed at what they call funding sources and dual-use materials, as part of ongoing operations that include raids and confiscations across various regions of the West Bank.
Additionally, Israeli military evaluations express concerns regarding the potential transfer of tactics from the Lebanon campaigns to the West Bank, including the deployment of drone aircraft. However, the occupation military has stated that its current assessment does not indicate the active presence of these systems in the West Bank at this time.
According to military sources, the decision to reallocate forces from the Lebanon invasion to the West Bank necessitated special approval from Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.
Israeli sources have indicated that this represents the first instance during an ongoing critical invasion where forces have been redirected to what they consider a secondary front.
