Iran's envoy to the UN office in Geneva has called for identifying and punishing the perpetrators of a 1987 chemical attack on the Iranian city of Sardasht in West Azerbaijan Province by Western-backed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

Iran has marked the national day of fight against chemical and biological weapons. The occasion is to commemorate the victims of the Sardasht chemical attacks launched by former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hossein in June 1987.

Foreign Minister Zarif has marked the 34th anniversary of Sardasht chemical attack, saying Western powers targeted the survivors twice.

Tehran says it has taken some European firms to international courts over their involvement in Saddam’s chemical attacks on Iranians.
