Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has congratulated his Algerian counterpart, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on the 72nd anniversary of the beginning of Algeria’s liberation revolution and the country’s National Day.
In a message addressed to Tebboune on Sunday, Pezeshkian expressed confidence that the two countries would further strengthen their ties through continued cooperation and support for shared ideals.
“I am confident that, in light of your wisdom and efforts, and through the continuation of an active and constructive approach in supporting the ideals of justice and making use of existing capacities, we will witness an ever-greater strengthening and expansion of relations and cooperation in the interests of the two great nations of Iran and Algeria,” the Iranian president wrote.
Pezeshkian also wished the Algerian president good health and success, while expressing hopes for the welfare and prosperity of the Algerian people.
In a separate message marking Algeria’s National Day, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi congratulated his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf, and extended his best wishes to the government and people of Algeria.
Araghchi also expressed hope for the continued development of relations between the two countries and stronger cooperation at bilateral, regional and international levels.
Algeria marks November 1 as the anniversary of the beginning of its liberation revolution against French colonial rule in 1954.
The protests, launched by the National Liberation Front (FLN), began an eight-year war that culminated in Algeria’s independence in 1962, ending more than 130 years of French colonial domination.
Iran was among the early supporters of Algeria’s independence movement and among the first countries to recognize the country after it gained independence in July 1962.
Tehran subsequently established diplomatic representation in Algiers, with Iran opening its embassy there in 1964.
