The Iranian Embassy in Kuwait has strongly dismissed allegations by the Kuwaiti government that an Iranian national was involved in an assignation plot against certain individuals or in any other activity that could compromise national security of the Persian Arab state.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran categorically rejected the allegations as baseless, stressing that the said individual had not been in Kuwait for the past 10 years.
It expressed profound regret over the persistence of the negative approach toward Iran, which it said is evident, among other things, in the repetition of baseless and worn-out allegations of interference in Kuwaiti affairs.
The embassy also emphasized that such allegations against Iranian citizens contradicted the principles of good neighborliness and violated international law.
"Leveling such baseless accusations against Iranian nationals is contrary to the principle of good neighborliness and a violation of international law," it noted.
The statement came after Kuwait’s State Security Court sentenced three defendants to death in a case involving allegations of cooperation with the Islamic Republic and Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement, as well as a plot to purportedly assassinate senior Kuwaiti officials.
Eight other defendants in the case were reportedly sentenced to five years in prison.
“In light of the serious repercussions facing our region,” the embassy noted, regional countries should pursue responsible and wise policies to prevent further escalation of tensions affecting the entire region.
