Four workers were killed on Tuesday evening after a tornado hit the construction site of a private complex in Antalya Province in southern Turkey.

Four workers were killed on Tuesday evening after a tornado hit the construction site of a private complex in Antalya Province in southern Turkey, destroying two containers in which the workers were staying and causing a tower crane to collapse.

Antalya Governor Hulusi Shahin said from the scene of the incident that a tornado-like whirlwind formed at around eleven o'clock at night in the area containing the construction site offices and containers, noting that the phenomenon occurred suddenly, with no similar storm recorded in other parts of the city.

Shahin added that the tornado tore apart the two containers, while rescue and ambulance teams rushed to the location to deal with the aftermath of the incident.

In Istanbul, heavy rain flooded roads and tunnels in the Bendik District, amid weather fluctuations witnessed in several Turkish regions, about two weeks after floods killed at least eight people.
