The Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), Abdolnaser Hemmati, has stressed the urgent need to deepen bilateral economic ties, facilitate trade, and strengthen banking relations with India through robust regional and multilateral frameworks.

During a meeting with India’s new Ambassador to Tehran, Vishwesh Negi, Hemmati highlighted Iran’s vast economic potential and called on New Delhi to fulfill its commitments regarding humanitarian trade interactions, ensuring that essential exchanges remain unhindered despite external pressures.

A key focus of the discussions was the strategic importance of the BRICS alliance.

Hemmati emphasized the necessity of developing shared financial and monetary mechanisms within the bloc to facilitate seamless cross-border transactions, reduce economic barriers, and neutralize the impact of unilateral coercive measures.

"Given Iran's significant economic capacities, bilateral cooperation can lay the groundwork for a substantial elevation in our economic and trade relations," Hemmati stated, underscoring the importance of leveraging multilateral platforms to secure sustainable financial channels.

Ambassador Negi, who officially assumed his post in early September 2026, reciprocated the sentiment.

He underscored the necessity of elevating bilateral trade, strengthening international cooperation, and removing existing hurdles to ensure a mutually beneficial economic partnership between the two nations.
