Dmitry Zolotarev says current discussions at the Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Moscow focus on developing a roadmap for cooperation among member states and partner countries amid ongoing sanctions pressures.
The journalist says that particular attention is likely to be given to expanding energy cooperation among non-Western countries, including major projects involving Russia, Iran, and Qatar, which remain key players in the global gas market.
Zolotarov argues that one of the summit's central objectives is to identify mechanisms that can help participating countries continue developing their energy sectors despite sanctions.
He notes that the primary target markets for future expansion lie outside the Western world, pointing specifically to India, Pakistan, and Southeast Asia as regions offering significant growth opportunities for gas exports and energy cooperation.
Commenting on Iran-Russia energy collaboration and plans to strengthen transit routes, Zolotarev says both countries have accumulated considerable experience in operating under Western sanctions and are now increasingly coordinating their efforts.
In his view, this cooperation improves their ability to pursue strategic energy projects and expand access to non-Western markets.
