Iran added two gold medals and a bronze to its haul at the 2026 World Wrestling Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, as Danial Sohrabi and Fardin Hedayati struck gold and Mohammad Hadi Saravi claimed bronze.

The latest medals strengthened Iran’s commanding run after the team had already secured the Greco-Roman world title early, following its medal haul in the opening weight classes.

Sohrabi delivered a commanding performance at 72kg, shutting out Sweden’s Henrik Dahlen 10-0 before defeating Kyrgyzstan’s Amantur Ismailov 9-0. He followed with another 9-0 victory over Russia’s Mingiian Goriaev in the semifinals, then beat Hungary’s Krisztian Vancza 4-0 in the final to capture Iran’s third gold of the tournament.

The victory marked a step forward for Sohrabi, who had won bronze at the 2025 World Championships.

Hedayati completed an impressive run at 130kg in his senior world debut, powering past Lithuania’s Romas Fridrikas, Kazakhstan’s Olzhas Syrlybay, China’s Wenhao Jiang and Finland’s Elias Kuosmanen on his way to the final. He then overwhelmed Hungary’s Darius Vitek 8-0 to claim gold, capping a dominant campaign in the heavyweight division.

Saravi, Iran’s captain and the reigning world champion and Olympic gold medalist at 97kg, added bronze after a 3-0 victory over Sweden’s Alex Kessidis. He had beaten Armenia’s Hayk Khloyan 8-0 and Germany’s Anton Vieweg 5-0 before losing 5-1 to Russia’s Artur Sargsian in the semifinals.

The results capped another successful day for Iran in Astana, where the Greco-Roman competition opened the nine-day World Championships, featuring close to 900 wrestlers across three disciplines.

Saeid Esmaeili at 67kg and Alireza Mohmadi at 87kg will wrestle for two more golds on Tuesday.
