Yemeni armed forces have carried out fresh attacks against Saudi Arabia in response to the kingdom’s ongoing aggression against the impoverished country.
The spokesman for the Yemeni armed forces said in a statement on Sunday that they had carried out three “qualitative military operations using dozens of ballistic missiles” deep inside Saudi territory.
General Yahya Saree said in the statement that the first operation had successfully targeted King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, a major aviation hub that has come under similar Yemeni attacks in recent weeks.
Saree said ballistic missiles were also used to attack King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait, in southwestern Saudi Arabia, where aircraft hangars, ammunition depots, drone control centers, and several other critical sites were targeted in “precise and direct” hits.
A third operation targeted a Saudi naval base in the southwestern Jizan region, where soldiers and officers of the Saudi Border Guard Force were killed or injured, he said.
Saree said the three operations were carried out in response to massacres committed by Saudi Arabia and its allied forces on Saturday in the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, and in provinces in the country’s southwest.
He said Saudi attacks on those areas had left dozens of civilians dead or wounded, most of them women and children.
“The blood of our people is precious, and we will not allow this criminal enemy to continue its bloodshed without a painful and unforgettable response,” the statement said, adding that Yemen would continue its military operations “deep inside Saudi territory.”
The statement also reiterated a previous warning to international airlines, passengers, and aviation personnel to avoid Saudi airspace and the kingdom’s main airport in Riyadh.
However, it said airspace over the holy cities of Mecca and Medina would be spared from Yemeni attacks.
