Three university staff among seven Palestinians killed in Israeli strikes across Gaza

Israeli strikes across the besieged Gaza Strip have killed several Palestinians as aerial attacks.

Israeli strikes across the besieged Gaza Strip have killed several Palestinians as aerial attacks, artillery shelling, and gunfire continued despite a ceasefire that took effect in October last year.

At least three university administrative staff members were killed in a drone strike on Gaza City’s Islamic University while students were attending classes, according to university sources.

The attack on the Islamic University also wounded students, some critically, and prompted the institution to suspend administrative and academic activities on its Gaza City campus.

The university said an Israeli drone had targeted a gathering of students shortly before the strike. The attacks sparked panic among students and displaced Palestinians sheltering on campus after their homes were destroyed during Israel’s war on Gaza.

Gaza’s Education Ministry condemned the strike, warning that international silence over attacks on students and universities risked encouraging further violence.

The ministry said Gaza’s higher education sector was facing “total annihilation”, adding that 95 percent of buildings belonging to academic institutions had been damaged during the Israeli genocidal war. It also reported that 10 students and educators had been killed by Israeli fire over the preceding six days.

In Gaza City, other Israeli strikes killed at least one person and wounded eight others, including one person in critical condition, according to Hamad, Al-Shifa and the American field hospitals, which received casualties.

In northern Gaza, an Israeli strike targeted a gathering of civilians along Al-Rashid coastal road in the northwest of the besieged territory, wounding several Palestinians, medical sources said.

Separately, a Palestinian was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the foot after Israeli forces opened fire in the Al-Faluja area, west of Jabalia refugee camp.

In southern Gaza, two brothers were killed in an Israeli strike in Khan Yunis, according to Nasser Hospital. Other medical sources reported that two Palestinians were killed and three others wounded in a strike in Al-Mawasi, west of the city. A woman also sustained moderate injuries from Israeli gunfire in Khan Younis.

Israeli artillery shelled areas east and south of Khan Yunis, while Israeli gunboats fired bullets and shells towards the coast.

In central Gaza, a 33-year-old Palestinian man was killed in an Israeli strike east of Deir al-Balah. Al-Aqsa Hospital, which received his body, said the attack took place near the so-called Yellow Line, which separates Israeli-controlled areas from the rest of the blockaded Palestinian territory.

Gaza Civil Defence spokesman Mahmoud Bassal separately reported four people killed in attacks elsewhere in the territory on Sunday. Two were killed in an air strike in Khan Yunis, one in Deir al-Balah and one in northern Gaza.

At dawn, Israeli forces also demolished homes and buildings in two raids in areas under their control in the Al-Tuffah neighbourhood of eastern Gaza City, causing two large explosions, local sources said.

The latest attacks took place despite the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, which came into effect on October 10, 2025.

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, Israeli forces have killed 1,551 Palestinians and wounded 5,573 others since the ceasefire began.

The toll from the wider genocidal war is considerably higher. Since October 2023, Israel’s military aggression has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians and wounded over 175,000, according to the ministry. Approximately 90 percent of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed.

The latest strike on the Islamic University has renewed concerns over the devastation facing Gaza’s education system, with students, educators and academic institutions enduring extensive losses during the Israeli genocidal war.
