Journalist and political commentator Syed Mohsin Abbas argues that Washington’s continued threats against Iran reflect a dangerous drive toward prolonged war, shaped less by US national interests than by Israeli influence and powerful lobbying interests.
In a Friday interview with Press TV, Abbas warned that such a war would further aggravate the United States’ domestic challenges, including inflation, high energy prices, and political divisions, while exposing the limits of President Donald Trump’s ability to wage war without public support.
He further argued that Iran has thwarted Washington’s strategic objectives over the past eight months, strengthened its deterrence and exposed the costs of US aggression, with disruptions to maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz carrying far-reaching global economic consequences.
Abbas also voiced skepticism toward renewed European calls for nuclear negotiations, citing the West’s failure to honor its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal. The commentator urged the international community to hold Washington accountable and exert pressure on it to abandon its confrontational course.
