Netanyahu wants to go to war with Iran before election, while Trump does not: Analyst

Greg Simons says political considerations in Washington and Tel Aviv may be influencing decision-making amid escalating tensions with Iran.

Commenting on heightened military readiness in Iran, as well as speculation surrounding a possible US-Israeli response, Greg Simons, Professor of Journalism at Daffodil International University in Bangladesh, suggests that domestic political calculations in both Washington and Tel Aviv may be shaping current decision-making.

According to this assessment, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may be seeking to strengthen political support ahead of elections, while US President Donald Trump faces growing public opposition to foreign military engagements and concerns over the political costs of another war.

The analyst argues that these factors could make the United States reluctant to become directly involved in a major military confrontation before upcoming elections, despite ongoing tensions.

He also suggests that political and strategic pressures could eventually push Washington toward a tougher stance after the electoral period.

On Iran's capability to target critical infrastructure, including communications networks and undersea internet cables, the analyst says any major disruption to these networks would present a serious challenge to the existing Western-led geopolitical framework.
