Spanish military emergency teams raced to rescue stranded residents on Monday as deadly Storm Adam battered eastern Spain, unleashing torrential rain and devastating floods that left four people dead.
Footage shows rescuers airlifting residents from flooded homes, evacuating families in military vehicles and pumping water from submerged areas as the storm wreaked havoc across the Valencia region and the Balearic Islands.
Members of Spain's Military Emergency Unit (UME) deployed helicopters, rescue vehicles and pumping equipment as floodwaters engulfed streets, swamped homes and cut off roads, leaving residents trapped and forcing mass evacuations.
More than 2,000 people were evacuated and hundreds rescued across the Valencia region, where rainfall reached 700 millimeters in some areas. More than 100,000 pupils were also kept out of school as the storm brought daily life to a standstill.
Emergency crews continued rescue and clean-up operations across the worst-hit areas, including Oliva, where residents were left stranded in their homes by rising floodwaters.
