Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Tehran and Moscow are enjoying the closest relations in their history, following talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Tehran on regional and global developments and the expansion of economic and nuclear cooperation.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Araghchi said the two officials held “timely talks” covering regional and global developments.

“We covered everything from Europe to West Asia, including Lebanon, Palestine, Ukraine and Yemen. Also focused on expansion of economic and nuclear cooperation,” he said.

“Never in our history have Iran and Russia worked as closely as now,” Araghchi added.

On Monday, Araghchi and Lavrov held talks and attended a joint press conference.

During the news briefing, Araghchi highlighted the “close” cooperation and consultations between Tehran and Moscow, saying both sides believe regional issues cannot be resolved militarily and should instead be addressed through diplomatic and political channels.

Araghchi also said that cooperation between Iran and Russia will play a proper role in establishing stability in the region.

Heading a diplomatic delegation, the Russian foreign minister arrived in Tehran on Monday to meet top Iranian officials on his first visit since the launch of the US-Israeli war against Iran almost eight months ago.
