The Iranian Foreign Ministry has summoned the ambassadors representing the European Union (EU) and Germany in Tehran to protest a series of baseless accusations levelled against the country.
Irish Ambassador to Tehran Aidan Cronin, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union, was summoned by Alireza Yousefi, director of the ministry's West Europe Department, on Monday.
Yousefi rejected the accusations levelled against Iran in the final communiqué of an EU leaders' summit in mid-October, saying the current situation in West Asia and the Persian Gulf is a result of the EU's "irresponsible" policies and the direct and indirect support provided by certain EU states for the joint aggression against Iran by the United States and the Israeli regime.
"The EU's projection of blame through levelling baseless claims against the Islamic Republic of Iran cannot serve to obscure its complicity in the crimes committed by the US and the Zionist regime (against Iran)," Yousefi told Cronin.
The senior Iranian diplomat also said that the EU must be held accountable for its "unquestioning compliance" with US policies on Iran's nuclear program, which he said has "dealt the severest blow" to the international regime on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.
In a separate decision on Monday, Yousefi summoned German Ambassador Axel Dittmann to his office to lodge the country's "strong protest over the contemptible approach of certain German officials" toward Iran.
He described the accusations levelled against Iran in Germany as a tactic used by certain officials and entities in the European country to cover up Berlin's support for the US-Israeli aggression against Iran.
Dittmann's summoning came hours after the German Foreign Ministry summoned the Iranian ambassador to Berlin over a German court ruling issued earlier this month claiming that two men planning to kill the leader of a Jewish organization in Germany had alleged links to Iran.
