Lebanese President Joseph Aoun (R) meets with Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy at the presidential palace in Baabda, east of Beirut, on October 19, 2026.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has reiterated that Israel continues to violate the US-mediated framework agreement signed in June, warning its ongoing attacks on southern Lebanon are undermining diplomatic efforts to end the occupation of Lebanese territory.

Speaking during a meeting with Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy at the presidential palace in Baabda, east of Beirut, on Monday, Aoun said Israel had failed to abide by the agreement and continued to commit daily violations in southern Lebanon, according to a statement from the Lebanese presidency.

“The Israelis have not adhered to the framework agreement, and the south continues to face daily violations,” Aoun said.

He warned that Israel’s continued violations would fail to achieve its objectives and instead strengthen the Lebanese people’s resolve to defend their land and rights. He added that the attacks were undermining the Lebanese state’s efforts to achieve its stated goals.

Aoun reiterated Lebanon’s commitment to a diplomatic solution despite the challenges, describing it as “far less costly than the devastating war” whose consequences continue to be borne by the Lebanese people, particularly residents of the south.

“It is time for Lebanon to have some peace,” he added, welcoming any efforts by the Arab League to help the country.

For his part, Fahmy reaffirmed the Arab League’s support for the Lebanese state and its institutions, stressing the need to respect Lebanon’s sovereignty. He also expressed readiness to help mobilize political and financial support for Lebanon and its people.

Fahmy also stressed that Arab countries maintained a unified position in support of Lebanon, adding that the Arab League was working to turn that support into concrete action and financial assistance.

Israel has continued its attacks on Lebanon since March 2, killing and injuring thousands of people and forcing more than 1.5 million residents from their homes.

On June 26, the Lebanese government and the Israeli regime signed a US-sponsored framework agreement providing for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory.

Despite the agreement, Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon have continued, while Israeli forces maintain their presence on Lebanese territory, including areas occupied for decades and others seized during more recent wars and military assaults.

Meanwhile, Dr. Rima Fakhry, a member of the Political Council of the Hezbollah resistance movement, has sharply criticized the Lebanese government for its passivity and capitulation to US-Israeli schemes.

Fakhry also took a swipe at the framework agreement, signed in Washington on June 26, with Israel, arguing the deal has emboldened the Tel Aviv regime to escalate its aggression against Lebanon.

She noted that Washington and the Tel Aviv regime have long been seeking to create an internal conflict in Lebanon, but Hezbollah has managed to resolve issues wisely.

Since March 2, Israeli military strikes on Lebanon have killed 4,389 people and injured another 12,424, according to the latest official figures released by the Lebanese government.
