Protesters fired fireworks and hurled objects at police in Albania's capital, Tirana, as officers unleashed water cannons to disperse crowds during violent demonstrations against the government's education policies.
Footage shows fireworks exploding near police lines, flames raging inside a building, and rubbish bins burning in the streets.
The clashes add to pressure on Prime Minister Edi Rama, with student-led protests fueled by anger over tuition fees, poor university facilities and limited job opportunities.
Demonstrators are demanding lower tuition fees, greater financial support and improvements to educational institutions, while broader complaints about corruption and living costs have also fueled discontent.
The protests began on October 13, with students demanding better university conditions, before spreading beyond Tirana. Pupils and university students have since boycotted classes in several Albanian cities.
The unrest comes amid a series of student-led and cost-of-living protests across Europe, including demonstrations in Paris, Lyon, Strasbourg and Montpellier in France, as well as rallies in Milan, Italy, and Copenhagen, Denmark.
